Residents know the real calendar sits three miles down the hill, on a quarter mile of Big Basin Way, where a monthly street party, a park screen, and a hillside amphitheater have finally landed on a schedule that lets you do all three in the same week.

The Mountain Winery draws the headlines and the ticket traffic. But the summer that actually structures a Saratoga resident's Thursday through Sunday runs on foot, along the Village. In 2026 the Chamber's new Saratoga Nights series pulls the Village into a monthly rhythm that matches the amphitheater's own peak weeks, so the two stop competing for your evenings and start reinforcing each other. If you plan by that overlap instead of by the marquee, you get a season that costs less, walks better, and leaves your car at home more often.

First Thursdays on Big Basin Way

Saratoga Nights is the new anchor. The Chamber launched the series on Thursday, May 7, 2026, and it runs the first Thursday of every month from May through October, 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., in Historic Saratoga Village.

That cadence matters. Big Basin Way already carries the daytime foot traffic of a compact restaurant row. Sent Sovi, Plumed Horse, Darla Cafe, Belle at 14501 Big Basin Way, Big Basin Cafe at 14471, and Big Basin Burger Bar at 14413 all sit inside a five minute walk of one another. What Saratoga Nights adds is a reason for the block to stay lit past dinner on a weekday, which the Village historically has not done.

Two practical notes for residents:

• The event window ends at 8:00 p.m., which lines up neatly with a 7:30 p.m. show up the hill. Park once, walk the Village, then drive the ridge for the concert.
• The next dates are August 6, September 3, and October 1. October 1 also happens to be a Mountain Winery concert night, which is worth flagging for parking.

The Mountain Winery calendar, in the order you'll actually use it

The 2026 concert bowl runs a dense stretch from mid-July through early October. The venue seats roughly 2,500 in an outdoor amphitheater built in 1958 on Paul Masson's original La Cresta estate at 14831 Pierce Road, and the schedule this year leans classic rock, country, and tribute acts. Two things residents learn after the first season and newcomers do not:

Parking runs $20 per car at the gate, but drops to $15 for three or more per car, with access to the VIP entrance. If four neighbors go together, the per person parking cost lands under $4. Doors open two hours before showtime, which is enough runway to grab something on Big Basin Way first and still catch openers.

The other thing: carpooling isn't just cheaper, it's the difference between exiting the hill in fifteen minutes and forty five. Pierce Road is a single lane both ways above the winery gate.

Movie nights at El Quito Park

The city's 2026 Summer Movie Nights run at El Quito Park, 12855 Paseo Presada, on the west side. The confirmed dates so far:

• Friday, June 12, 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. — Elio
• Friday, July 10 — Zootopia 2

These are family programmed, free, and run late enough that the picture doesn't actually start until dusk lands, which in Saratoga in July is closer to 8:45. The four hour window on the calendar covers set up, food trucks, and the film itself. If you have kids under ten, El Quito is the easier ask than driving up to the amphitheater.

One local note the flyers do not spell out: parking at El Quito fills from the Paseo Presada side first. The lot on the north edge, closer to the play structure, is the one that clears fastest after the credits.

The Fourth, at Kevin Moran Park

Saratoga runs its Independence Day observance as a morning event, not an evening one. The 2026 celebration is at Kevin Moran Park, 12415 Scully Avenue, from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 4. That timing is deliberate. It clears the day for whatever fireworks plan you have in San Jose or Los Gatos and it keeps the neighborhood observance cool enough to walk to.

For anyone new to the town, Memorial Day is handled the same way, at the Memorial Arch in Blaney Plaza. Saratoga tends to keep its civic observances short, early, and in walkable public spaces rather than large fairgrounds. It is one of the quieter tells that this is still, at its core, a village.

A slower morning circuit

Not every summer weekend needs a headliner. There is a circuit residents build for out of town guests that reads well on its own.

Start with coffee at Sue's Gallery Cafe at 14665 Big Basin Way. It is the current host of the city's Coffee with the Mayor sessions, the next of which is June 19, 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Even if you skip that particular Friday, the cafe functions as the informal front door to the Village.

From there it is a fifteen minute drive to Hakone Estate and Gardens, one of the oldest Japanese style residential gardens in the Western Hemisphere and the reason a fair number of Bay Area guidebooks put Saratoga on their lists at all. Summer daytime admission is available through the standard ticketing channels, and the shaded upper paths hold their cool well into the afternoon.

If the group has an appetite for a longer walk, the trailheads at Fremont Older Open Space Preserve and Sanborn Park both sit within a short drive, and Saratoga Quarry Park and Wildwood Park cover the shorter, stroller friendly end of the spectrum.

The point of the circuit isn't the individual stops. It is that in Saratoga you can hand a visitor a full day without leaving a ten mile radius, and end it back on Big Basin Way for dinner.

What actually changed in 2026

Two things, worth naming plainly.

The first is Saratoga Nights itself. The Village has always had First Fridays energy in principle, but 2026 is the first year the Chamber has attached a formal monthly series to the block, with the Village Development Council backing the programming. That is what turns a strip of restaurants into a scheduled destination.

The second is the concert bowl's density. Between July 12 and July 23 the Mountain Winery is running ten shows, which is closer to the pace of a small dedicated summer festival than a wine estate side program. If you have not looked at the amphitheater's calendar since the last time Willie Nelson came through, look again. The venue is programming harder than it did five years ago, and the residual effect is a lot more headlights on Pierce Road on Tuesday and Wednesday nights.

Both trends favor the same thing: staying local, walking more, and treating the ridge and the Village as one calendar rather than two.

The one week to build your season around

If someone made you pick a single week to plan around, it would be July 20 to 26. That stretch gives you Wynonna Judd and Melissa Etheridge on Tuesday, Gladys Knight on Wednesday, the Happy Together Tour on Thursday, and enough weekend daylight to walk Hakone before the temperatures climb. Add a Saratoga Nights spillover on the following Thursday, August 6, and you have used your car exactly twice in ten days.

That is the Saratoga summer worth planning for. Not the one the search engines advertise, but the one the block actually holds together.
